The 2nd Best Book Ever Written

The Bible is the best book ever written—And that’s because it’s not simply a book about God, but it’s a book from God! Though He used many different writers, He is the Author (2 Timothy 3:16).

But what’s the second best book ever written? I would argue that it’s Dr. Martin Luther’s Small and Large Catechism! This book (both small and large) is the best secondary source on the Bible ever written! No, it’s not the Bible, it’s not infallible, and it’s not divinely inspired. We are not saying that this book cannot fail the test of Scripture; we are saying that it did not fail it. Simply put, the Small and Large Catechism is the best compendium (think summary, or like “SparkNotes”) of the Bible ever written.
